a lot has happened since my last post on here.
i am going to use this regularly now, i promise.

my passion for taking photographs is slowly returning, and i owe most of it to the lovely phil and lauren of the hidden dingbat collective.

here are some photographs i’ve made of my life recently. these are all taken on fujicolour pro 160s 120 film on my bronica.

they recently featured the etsy (.com) office headquarters on there, and they did not disappoint the image i had of an inspiring homemade space that would be awesome to work in:

i recently started reading ‘oh comely’ magazine, which is what i would call an absolutely perfect magazine. although i read a huge number of fashion and design magazines, it seems that i spend £6 a pop on each issue and find that i only read half the pages because i lose interest, or just have no interest in a lot of the things that they feature – clothes, make-up, expensive items, what have you.
‘oh comely’ managed to keep my attention from cover to cover, it’s so down to earth and charming, and i am super excited for the next issue to come out this week.

whilst browsing their blog recently i saw a photograph by emma crichton, and proceeded to check out her website (which is really nicely designed). her images are lovely. that’s all there really is to say, i like them a lot.

i haven’t posted on here in quite some time.
since my last post i’ve graduated, exhibited as part of Showcase London, moved home, become employed, and lost motivation to do anything at all creative.

i’m trying to get myself back into the swing of creating things, being inspired.

i’ve been working my way through the thousands of pages and sites that i bookmarked months ago when i didn’t have time to look at things properly.

tonight i found the work of Reuben Cox, which i must have saved a long time ago because i can’t remember at all how i found this.

in particular, i bookmarked the series ‘Record Shack.’ there’s a couple of photos below.
i really love them.

graduate shows

recently i went to see some of the students from my university’s exhibition at the rag factory off of brick lane, jigsaw.

i enjoyed the show. i thought it was very similar to the show last year’s graduates put on, but i liked some of the work.
in particular i really liked the work of my good friend Frankie Lodge; a video installation piece that has been photographed in a sequence to illustrate the movement and muscle tension of a female bodybuilder. the video slideshows were stunning.

i also went to see some of the work at free range , at the truman brewery. i’ve noticed from looking at a lot of graduate shows over the past year, there are definite themes of work in every photography show. there is always a series of photographs of abandoned spaces, usually a series of naked self portraits in a landscape setting, and often a series of naked women accepting their bodies, and photographs of young girls wearing makeup.
i’m not trying to discredit anyone who makes work like this, a lot of the images are made very well, it’s just interesting to see these themes so frequently.

notebooks.

i am an obsessive notebook hoarder. since i was young i’ve filled dozens of books full of my scribbles, doodles and thoughts, from rough books at school to sketchbooks. about six years ago an ex-boyfriend bought me my first moleskine, and since then i have been hooked on their books. i have shelves of them, squared paper hardbacks for my college and university notes, and weekly notebooks for my diary planner. i have an addiction.

a while ago i came across this blog post by graphic designer Michael Beirut. he has kept the 85 notebooks he has used over the past 26 years of his life, and they are wonderful. i hope that one day i can look back at my copious amounts of books and re-read parts of my life.

i haven’t written on here for a couple of months. since my last post, i’ve finished my third and final year of university, which frankly i couldn’t be happier about. it was not the most enjoyable three years of my life.
i feel like all of my motivation and inspiration has been sucked out of me. i have learnt that i am not good at making work for other people, to deadlines and to others’ standards.
now i want to spend my summer rekindling my love of art and photography. i want to draw, paint, make things.
i hope this happens.

- i wish someone would hire me! three years and £30,000 of debt to now not be able to get a job is rubbish.
